The Best Overall Gamer Gets First Pick
LowerMainLan is an offshoot of CapLAN, a successfull casual LANparty. CapLAN has always been about having fun and gaming with friends. The main reason that CapLAN has worked so well is that the event focuses on the well-rounded gamers, not gamers that excel at any one game. We wanted to keep that focus for a larger lan but we could not figure out an approriate method of incorporating prizes.
Regular tournaments focuses on the elite players of a single one game, who get the good hardware and swag when most of the time they are the least deserving. Polished skill through repetition is easy with enough practice. But what about the true gaming genius, or those of us that have gaming in our blood? What about the people that can pick up the controls and in minutes climb to the top of the charts? One of our sponsors, NCIX, suggested a way to determine a winner, which we have modified somewhat, that will allow us to stay true to the way of the casual gamer .
At LowerMainLAN we will assign points for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in a tournament, as well as for categories like best kill to death ratio or accuracy. All the points will be tracked to each gamer and logged onto a score board. At the end of the LAN, we will go through the list starting from the highest points earned and allow each winner to pick a prize.
